In the beginning of the school year many students are called to attend a Doral interest meeting. The presentation covers the requirements, expectations, benefits, and risks of starting college classes through Doral, but what is it actually like? As a student who has been taking Doral for a while, I definitely recommend students to look into the program and see if it is right for them.A lot of students do not start Doral classes because they are scared of the coursework and of overwhelming themselves with college classes. Although it can be tricky to manage your time, I believe that with the right preparation it isn’t too bad. Most classes usually post all of the assignments and modules for the course at the beginning, so you can plan ahead and finish work according to your schedule.
Another concern is that it will be a waste of time if you do it but don’t graduate high school with your AA degree. I believe that doing Doral will never be a waste of time since you can earn college credits. Doing Doral could also be a replacement for taking an AP class. Many students aren’t great test takers and do not do very well on the AP test, but taking a Doral class for the credit might be easier since the class is at their own pace.Overall, I believe that it doesn’t hurt to try it out since you can drop courses within the first week with no consequences if the coursework seems too overwhelming.
