Justice System Treats Black Men Unfairly

“Monster” A Book Review
Justice System Treats Black Men Unfairly
Beth Czeskleba

Monster illustrates the idea of how the justice system treats young black men unfairly. This young adult drama novel by author Walter Dean Myers focuses on 16-year-old Steve Harmon who is in prison awaiting his trial for murder. Myers is an amazing author who details Steve’s experience and life going through the trial and all the madness that’s happening along the way.  This book, written as a screenplay, can draw the attention of readers who like screenplay style and mixed journal books. The book is a 9/10 only because it should have been longer: More could have been added about Steve’s life after the trial. But overall the book was great. It helped me get a unique perspective of what young black men go through in the justice system.
